TITLE:                            Proposed Remit to LGNZ AGM - Sugar Sweetened Beverages

RECOMMENDATION(S) TO Council

1.   That Council support the ‘Sugar Sweetened Beverages’ remit from Hastings District Council.

 

 

 

1.         ISSUE

Hastings District Council has agreed to put forward the following remit to the Local Government New Zealand AGM:

“That LGNZ encourage all Councils to consider the development of a Sugar Sweetened Beverages Policy for their respective workplaces and facilities.

That LGNZ develop template policy and guidelines to assist Councils with the development of such policies.

That LGNZ collect data on the development of Sugar Sweetened Beverage Policies by Councils and report back at the 2018 LGNZ Annual General Meeting”.

Palmerston North City Council is being approach for support as a Zone 3 Council. In order to submit a remit the Council has to get support from at least five other Councils or at least one zone or sector prior to the submission deadline, to enable the proposer to access support and clarity of the proposal.

The full remit is attached, which has been drafted in accordance with guidance from LGNZ.
